In 1930, Georges‑Robert Lefort designed and commissioned for himself the Hôtel Particulier that now bears his name. This deeply personal project allowed him to unite his knowledge of Breton stone, his command of balanced lines and his meticulous attention to ornament.
Carefully laid stone, a pointed entrance arch, a columned loggia and sculpted figures on the façade form an immediately recognisable signature on boulevard Clemenceau. The restoration preserved the proportions, woodwork, parquet floors and period details while providing contemporary comfort across five distinctive apartments.

The renowned Breton architect
Georges‑Robert Lefort
1875—1954
Born in 1875 and a graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1900, Georges‑Robert Lefort became one of the notable figures of early twentieth-century Breton architecture. Based in Guingamp, he taught and later directed the Rennes regional school of architecture. His work combines modern construction, the strength of Breton materials and the talent of decorative artists associated with the Seiz Breur movement.
Hôtel Particulier Lefort holds a unique place in this career: the architect conceived it for himself in 1930. Here he expressed a personal architectural language that can also be traced, on a different scale, through Guingamp hospital, Saint‑Yves Grand Seminary and Dinan railway station.

A former feudal town beside the Trieux, Guingamp is best explored on foot. Its Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance basilica, the Plomée fountain, half-timbered façades, former prison, footbridges and washhouses tell several centuries of architectural history. Georges‑Robert Lefort’s work carries that story into the twentieth century.

This study drawing takes the visitor directly into Georges‑Robert Lefort’s creative process. The clock tower, balanced volumes and synthesis of modernity, Breton identity and Art Deco ornament are already visible. Completed in 1931—1932 with mosaics by the Odorico workshop, the station became one of his best-known signatures.
Georges‑Robert Lefort organised this monumental granite complex around a vast cloister and a commanding chapel. Modern structure, rigorous composition and an ambitious decorative programme entrusted to artists close to the Seiz Breur movement demonstrate his ability to unite architecture and Breton arts.
This architectural drawing, held by the Musée de Bretagne, reveals Georges‑Robert Lefort’s precision: façade composition, stonework, dormers and carved ornament are conceived as one whole. By 1909, he had already mastered the urban monumentality that he would renew in his interwar creations.
